Public lists name the metric in the title. They are not “best lawyer” rankings and do not use a single opaque score.

Only attorneys and firms that already exist in USPTO-linked identity tables are listed. People are never invented.

Attorney Most Active (Methodology 1.3): a qualifying grant requires direct practitioner-level evidence that the registered attorney prosecuted or was attorney of record for the application (named PatEx attorney_agent link or OA response signer). Firm correspondence addresses, firm-name-only rows, phone/fax/address extractions, and “works at the firm” inference never create attorney ranking hits. A firm’s docket is never propagated to its attorneys.

Volume uses U.S. granted patents with CPC codes. Patents are assigned to a measurement year based on their U.S. patent grant date. Pending applications without a grant usually lack CPC and are omitted.

Most Active lists up to 50 identities by qualifying measurement-year grants, each with at least 10 theme grants. Internal calculation may retain up to 100 for editorial QA. Publication also requires a cohort of at least 10 identities after the floor, at least 100 CPC-mapped patents in the theme, and data not older than 45 days.

Patent & Portfolio Rankings (PSRP)

Patent Suggested Retail Price (PSRP) is IP Brainbox’s patent-level economic screening model. Patent Intelligence provides a PSRP Screening Estimate as a USD range. Public rankings use PSRP Percentile, which shows where each patent’s screening estimate ranks relative to other scored patents in the same technology cohort.

Public PSRP rankings do not publish underlying USD screening estimates. They publish rank, PSRP Percentile, signal band, assignee, and technology context. Dollar ranges, drivers, comparables, and portfolio context remain in Patent Intelligence.

PSRP Patent Rankings

Highest-PSRP and Emerging High-PSRP lists order Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning patents by PSRP Percentile within the scored theme cohort for edition year 2026. Emerging lists further require a recent grant window (edition year and prior calendar year) and a minimum percentile of 90 (top 10%).

  • Cohort: U.S. grants mapped to the theme with a scored Patent Suggested Retail Price (PSRP) in the current cache.
  • Publication floor: at least 500 scored theme patents.
  • Public list length target: up to 50 rows (ties may extend).
  • Coverage is incomplete relative to all theme patents — only scored patents enter the cohort.

PSRP Company Rankings

Companies are ranked by the count of theme patents in the top 10% of PSRP Percentile within the scored cohort — not by aggregate portfolio PSRP, portfolio size, or summed dollar estimates.

  • Eligibility: at least 5 qualifying scored theme patents and at least 2 assets at or above the top-10% percentile band.
  • Same scored-cohort and publication floors as patent lists.

What PSRP rankings are not

  • Observed market prices, transaction comps, or formal appraisals.
  • Proof that capital is flowing to a company or technology.
  • A legal opinion on validity, infringement, or enforceability.
  • A disclosure of IP Brainbox’s proprietary scoring formula.

Patent Services Rankings

Attorney and law firm lists measure U.S. prosecution activity linked to granted patents and CPC technology themes. They are not quality judgments.

Attorney Rankings

Most Active, Technology Concentration, and Fastest Growing attorney lists use counsel of record on qualifying grants within each theme. People are never invented — only attorneys already present in USPTO-linked identity tables.

Law Firm Rankings

Firm lists use the same grant and CPC construction, aggregated to firm identity. Technology Concentration distinguishes high-volume generalists from specialists.

Who is listed

Only attorneys and firms that already exist in USPTO-linked identity tables (`attorney_stats` / `firm_stats`). An application may match more than one technology theme; it is counted in each matching theme.

Activity window

Volume and momentum use U.S. granted patents with CPC codes for which the attorney or firm is prosecution counsel of record. Patents are assigned to a measurement year based on their U.S. patent grant date. Year-over-year growth compares those grant-date years (2025 is year-to-date). This measures grants associated with prosecution that ultimately issued during each period — not live pending application volume or post-grant activity. Lists use attorney counsel-of-record links on U.S. granted patents that have CPC codes. Pending applications without a grant usually lack CPC and are omitted. Firm lists are separate and cover organizations only.

Technology Concentration

Technology Concentration is the share of a firm’s (or attorney’s) qualifying patent grants associated with this technology theme — theme grants ÷ CPC-coded grants across tracked ranking themes. Shown alongside measurement-year grant counts, it distinguishes high-volume generalists from specialists.

What we are not measuring

  • Pending applications without a grant (CPC is usually absent until grant).
  • Post-grant litigation, licensing, or portfolio management activity.
  • Subjective attorney quality, client satisfaction, or outcomes at the USPTO.
  • A single composite “best lawyer” score across metrics or technologies.

Sample floors and publication

  • Most Active / highest Technology Concentration: up to 50 identities by qualifying measurement-year grants, each with at least 10 theme grants (internal calculate may retain up to 100 for QA).
  • Fastest growing: at least 100 theme grants in each of the two years compared.
  • A list is unpublished if fewer than 10 identities clear the floor.
  • Theme must have at least 100 CPC-mapped granted patents.
  • Data timestamps must be within 45 days.
  • Public pages load published runs only — calculated stats are not auto-published.
